As an openly gay candidate running for Congress in Oregon's 3rd district, I am proud to stand alongside our diverse and inclusive community. I firmly believe that everyone, regardless of their gender or identity, should have the right to make decisions about their own bodies and reproductive health.
INTRO
In today's political climate, women's health and reproductive rights are under constant threat. We must defend and expand access to comprehensive healthcare services, including reproductive healthcare, for all individuals. On June 24, 2022, I was dismayed when the Supreme Court used their decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization to overturn Roe v. Wade. They not only took away the constitutional right to abortion by abandoning almost 50 years of precedent, they paved the way for states to both ban and criminalize abortion.
Simply put, we must federally codify the right to choose to ensure this right is safeguarded.
Our commitment to reproductive rights doesn't stop there. We must also address the economic and social factors that can limit access to reproductive healthcare. This includes advocating for affordable healthcare, comprehensive sex education, and access to contraception. We must stop ignoring massively higher rates of black maternal mortality.
And we must hold pro life proponents accountable for mothers and their well-being after birth. We must actually let women stay in hospitals for a more reasonable duration, provide means of support for those who don’t have it, and pre and postpartum physical and mental health resources.

In Congress, I will fight tirelessly to defend and expand women's health and reproductive rights. Together, we will ensure that everyone has the autonomy and resources they need to make decisions about their own bodies and futures. Our campaign is committed to creating a more just, equitable, and inclusive society, and this starts with safeguarding the rights and choices of all individuals, regardless of gender.
